Forklift Operator Job Description

  • Completes daily forklift safety checklist
  • Hooks batteries up to battery charger. 
  • Assists with creating a drop list of merchandise for placement in aisles
  • Communicates with floor managers to set priorities and determine merchandise placement
  • Moves pallets of merchandise using the electric forklift and electric pallet
  • Uses/acts as a spotter to alert forklift drivers if something is falling and to keep people out of the fall-danger zone
  • Wraps pallets in plastic wrap and attaches a merchandise tag
  • Stacks merchandise from partial pallets onto full pallets
  • Removes empty pallets from the sales floor
  • Rotates stock as necessary
  • Ensures that all pallets being placed in steel meet Costco Standards
  • Assists with stocking
  • Clears sales floor of debris
  • Checks merchandise sign accuracy
  • Ensures that the steel safety inspection checklist issues are rectified
  • Marks unmarked merchandise with item number
  • Follows proper Merchandising and general safety procedures and standards
  • Assists in other departments of the warehouse as necessary
  • Provides prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees, and suppliers.

Ability to operate vehicles, equipment, or machinery

  • Forklift, electric pallet jack, pallet jack, battery charger, computer, calculator, shrink wrap machine, pallets, license labels, cutter, broom, and writing utensils.

 

Qualifications (Costco-specific or industry-specific skills that candidates should possess)

Education/Training: High School Certificate or higher

Licenses/Certifications: Current forklift driving license

Experience/Skills: Merchandising or comparable experience
