Class 5 Truck Driver Job Vacancy at HEB Construction NZ – Join a Top Tier-1 Civil Contractor Today

New Zealand's civil construction industry is growing at pace, and with it, the demand for skilled, reliable, and safety-focused Class 5 heavy vehicle drivers has never been stronger. If you hold a full, clean New Zealand Class 5 driver's licence and are looking for a rewarding career with one of the country's most respected infrastructure companies, HEB Construction wants to hear from you — right now.

HEB Construction has an active truck driver vacancy available for a motivated Class 5 Driver to join their operations team. This is a genuine full-time, permanent opportunity with a company that offers top-tier pay, a modern fleet, outstanding benefits, and a culture built around safety, respect, and professional growth. Whether you are an experienced civil construction driver or a qualified Class 5 operator looking to break into the infrastructure sector, this vacancy deserves your attention.

About HEB Construction — A Company Worth Working For

HEB Construction is one of Aotearoa New Zealand's premier tier-1 civil infrastructure companies, with a track record spanning more than five decades. Operating across both the North and South Islands, HEB delivers some of New Zealand's most critical infrastructure projects — including state highway construction and maintenance, bridge building, earthworks, drainage, subdivision development, and motorway operations.

HEB is a proud part of the Downer Group, a leading provider of services to owners and managers of infrastructure and industrial assets across Australia and New Zealand. Being part of Downer gives HEB's employees access to extended career pathways, resources, and opportunities that smaller construction firms simply cannot match.

What truly sets HEB apart is their deeply embedded safety culture and commitment to their people. The company operates under the principle that every single worker — whether on site or behind the wheel — deserves to go home safely at the end of every shift. This is not just a policy statement; it is the lived, daily reality of working at HEB Construction.

Job Title: Class 5 Truck Driver – Civil / Maintenance Operations

Company: HEB Construction Limited

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Licence Required: Full, clean New Zealand Class 5 Driver's Licence

Industry: Civil Infrastructure, Roading Maintenance, Earthworks

Locations: North Island operations (Taupo region and surrounding areas)

Estimated Pay: NZD $35.00 – $45.00 per hour (experience and location dependent)

What Does a Class 5 Driver Do at HEB Construction?

The Class 5 Truck Driver role at HEB Construction is a hands-on, physically active, and genuinely rewarding position embedded within the company's civil maintenance operations team. You will be working alongside experienced engineers, plant operators, and site crews to ensure that materials, equipment, and aggregate are delivered efficiently to support active roading and infrastructure projects.

Your day-to-day responsibilities as a Class 5 Truck Driver at HEB will typically include:

  • Operating Class 5 heavy combination trucks, tipper trucks, or truck-and-trailer units on project sites and public roads in full compliance with NZTA requirements
  • Transporting and tipping aggregate, fill materials, asphalt, and construction supplies to support roading maintenance and civil construction activities
  • Performing thorough daily pre-start vehicle inspections and recording findings in the company's vehicle management system
  • Coordinating with site foremen, plant operators, and project supervisors to align delivery schedules with site productivity targets
  • Managing and maintaining accurate transport documentation — including load records, delivery dockets, and driver logs — as required under New Zealand road transport regulations
  • Adhering strictly to site traffic management plans (TMPs) and following the directions of STMS-qualified personnel on-site
  • Actively supporting HEB's zero harm health and safety culture — reporting hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly and contributing to continuous safety improvement on site
  • Completing any additional site support duties during downtime between loads, in line with site requirements
  • Maintaining your assigned vehicle to a high standard of cleanliness, roadworthiness, and presentation

Every day as a Class 5 driver at HEB is varied and purposeful. You will play a direct, tangible role in building and maintaining the infrastructure that connects New Zealand's communities and keeps the country moving.

Qualifications and Requirements

HEB Construction is looking for drivers who bring not just a licence, but a professional attitude, a strong safety mindset, and a genuine commitment to getting the job done well. To be considered for this Class 5 Truck Driver position, you will need:

  • A full, clean New Zealand Class 5 driver's licence — this is an absolute requirement for truck-and-trailer operations in NZ
  • A minimum of 2 years' proven experience operating Class 5 heavy vehicles (civil construction or roading experience is highly advantageous)
  • A clean driving record — candidates with demerit points or recent serious traffic infringements will not be considered
  • The ability to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol screen and a police/MOJ background check
  • Solid understanding of NZTA road transport compliance rules, including Hours of Service (HOS), load securing, and vehicle maintenance requirements
  • Experience with tipper truck operations, aggregate haulage, or similar bulk material transport in a construction environment
  • Confidence working within live traffic environments and roading construction sites, including following traffic management plans
  • The legal right to work in New Zealand — NZ citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid work visa are all acceptable
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions typical of New Zealand roading projects

Candidates who hold additional endorsements such as a Dangerous Goods (D endorsement), Wheels, Tracks and Rollers (WTR), or a forklift operator certificate will stand out in the selection process. HEB also strongly welcomes applications from drivers who are keen to upskill and gain additional qualifications — the company invests in its people's ongoing professional development.

Pay, Salary, and Benefits Package

HEB Construction offers a genuinely competitive remuneration and benefits package that recognises the skill and responsibility that comes with operating heavy civil construction vehicles in New Zealand. Here is what you can expect:

Estimated Hourly Rate: NZD $35.00 – $45.00 per hour (depending on experience and location) Estimated Annual Earnings: NZD $68,000 – $93,000+ (including overtime and site allowances where applicable)

  • Full PPE and safety equipment supplied — boots, high-visibility gear, helmets, and site-specific equipment all provided by HEB
  • Career development and professional training — HEB actively supports drivers in obtaining additional licences, endorsements, and construction-industry certifications
  • Modern, well-maintained fleet — HEB operates late-model heavy vehicles that are regularly serviced and maintained to the highest standards
  • Access to the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) — covering mental health support, financial advice, and family wellbeing resources
  • Long-service recognition and employee tenure milestones — HEB values loyalty and recognises team members who commit for the long term
  • A supportive, team-first workplace culture where your voice is heard and your contribution is valued

Why New Zealand's Civil Construction Sector Offers the Best Truck Driving Careers

If you are weighing up your options in the New Zealand truck driving job market, civil construction is one of the smartest sectors to work in. Here is why:

Stronger Pay: Civil construction truck drivers typically earn more per hour than general freight or retail logistics drivers, thanks to site allowances, overtime, and specialist skills premiums.

Consistent Work: Government infrastructure contracts give civil companies like HEB a multi-year forward workload. This translates to exceptional job security for Class 5 drivers — you are not subject to the freight fluctuations that affect logistics or courier drivers.

Variety and Engagement: Every project is different. From state highway maintenance in Waikato to subdivision earthworks in the Bay of Plenty, HEB drivers experience genuine variety in their working week.

Career Pathways: Civil construction driving is a gateway to broader career development. Many HEB drivers transition into plant operator roles (excavators, graders, rollers), STMS traffic management positions, site supervisor roles, or logistics coordination — all with HEB's active support.

Driver Shortage = Driver Leverage: New Zealand's well-documented shortage of qualified Class 4 and Class 5 drivers means that employers like HEB must offer top rates, strong benefits, and genuine career support to attract and retain skilled operators. As a Class 5 driver, your skills are in demand — and companies like HEB know it.

This full-service approach eliminates the overwhelming bureaucracy and uncertainty that often prevents qualified drivers from accessing European employment opportunities.

Why Albania? Europe's Emerging Transportation Hub

Albania represents an increasingly attractive destination for international workers seeking European employment for several compelling reasons:

Streamlined Work Permit Process: Unlike many European Union countries with complex immigration requirements, Albania has developed efficient work authorization procedures specifically designed to welcome skilled foreign workers in sectors experiencing labor shortages, including professional transportation services.

Rapidly Developing Infrastructure: Albania is undergoing massive infrastructure development with highway construction, port expansion, and urban transportation modernization creating sustained demand for professional truck drivers and bus operators. This growth trajectory ensures job security and career stability for drivers entering the market now.

Strategic Geographic Position: Located along the Adriatic coast with borders to Greece, North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Montenegro, Albania serves as a critical transportation corridor connecting Southeastern Europe with Western European markets. Drivers gain exposure to international routes and diverse cargo operations.

Affordable Cost of Living: While offering European-standard salaries, Albania maintains significantly lower living costs compared to Western European countries. This combination enables drivers to save substantial portions of income while enjoying comfortable living standards.

Gateway to European Experience: Working in Albania provides verifiable international experience, European work history, and professional references that open doors to opportunities in other European countries including Slovakia, Poland, Malta, and beyond—countries where Orient Service also places drivers.

Truck Driver Positions: Requirements and Opportunities

Orient Service seeks experienced professional truck drivers meeting specific qualification standards:

Essential Requirements:

Valid CE Driving License: Current Category CE (or equivalent international heavy vehicle authorization) permitting operation of articulated trucks and heavy goods vehicles. The license must be valid and maintained in good standing.

Minimum Experience: At least 2 years of documented professional truck driving experience operating commercial heavy vehicles. Recent, verifiable experience demonstrates competence and safety awareness.

Code 95 Certification: Valid Certificate of Professional Competence (Code 95) or equivalent professional driver qualification demonstrating completion of required training modules. For candidates lacking this certification, Orient Service may provide guidance on obtaining it through recognized training providers.

Clean Driving Record: History demonstrating safe driving practices, absence of serious traffic violations, and commitment to regulatory compliance. Employers prioritize drivers with proven safety performance.

Professional Attitude: Dedication to punctuality, efficiency, customer service, and representing employer brands professionally during delivery operations.

Bus Driver Opportunities: Public and Private Sector

Bus driver positions serve Albania's growing public transportation networks and private coach operations:

Position Types: Opportunities span urban public transit systems, intercity coach services, tourist transportation, and specialized shuttle operations serving construction sites, industrial facilities, and corporate campuses.

License Requirements: Valid bus/coach driving authorization appropriate to vehicle sizes operated. Requirements vary by specific position but typically require Category D (passenger transport) licensing or equivalent.

Passenger Service Skills: Professional demeanor, customer service orientation, communication abilities, and patience handling diverse passenger populations from daily commuters to international tourists.

Route Knowledge: Willingness to learn Albanian road networks, urban areas, and intercity routes. Training periods typically include route familiarization under supervision before independent operation.

Comprehensive Compensation and Benefits

While specific salary figures for Albania positions vary by experience level and position type, Orient Service placements typically offer:

Competitive European Salaries: Compensation based on European transportation industry standards rather than developing country wage levels. Truck drivers can expect monthly salaries ranging from €600-€1,000+ depending on experience, routes, and specialized endorsements. Bus drivers earn comparable wages adjusted for position responsibilities and licensing requirements.

Legal Employment Contracts: Formal employment agreements complying with Albanian labor law, providing legal protections, defined working hours, paid leave entitlements, and clear terms preventing exploitation.

Work Visa and Permit Support: Complete assistance with Albanian work authorization including document preparation, application submission, coordination with immigration authorities, and ensuring legal compliance throughout the employment period.

Accommodation Options: Depending on specific employer arrangements, positions may include subsidized housing, shared accommodations, or housing allowances enabling drivers to secure independent living arrangements.

Career Development: Exposure to European logistics standards, modern equipment, professional management practices, and international operations that enhance driver qualifications and create pathways to positions in other European countries.
